If you leave them for many hours with the oil sticking to it, this can result in sticky oil residue which don't go off of pans and pots.

This is especially true for steel pans and pots.

I recently had a situation where my small steel frying pan has had a sticky oil residue which won't go off.

The good thing with steel pans is that we can try to use steel scrubbers which won't damage the pan but the do a pretty good job in normal situations if used with regular washing soap.

Just make sure you use the right scrubbers for steel pans and non stick pans as the steel scrubbers may damage non stick pans.

If it is a small pan or pot and if the oil is sticking to the bottom of the pan, the best thing to do is to fill the pan slightly with white vinegar which will cover the area where there is the oil residue.

Leave the pan with white vinegar for at least half an hour or a couple of hours.

Whether you are filling the pan with vinegar or sprinkling with vinegar, make sure that the area which has the oil residue should be coated with white vinegar.
